Integrating Indigenous Healing

Smoking ceremonies, which remove evil or unsettled spirits from a person who has experienced trauma or violence, will continue to be needed regularly as women from across the region come to the shelter in times of crisis. First Nations women receive a great deal of benefit from the application of culturally significant interventions when they are at their most vulnerable. This validation of cultural ceremonial positioning in the lives of a large proportion of our clients can strengthen not only the women we serve but by extension their families, extended families and communities.
